BREYERFEST STORY TREASURE
In 2000 my husband and I went to our first Breyerfest. I was
very impressed but the one thing that sticks in my mind most was what happened when in one of the "signing" lines. A memory that will stay with me forever.

It was Sunday and I wanted to get my Miss Resistance Free signed before we left. I was in line behind two young girls who were just as excited about getting their horses signed as I was. Well, their time came and they stepped up to Richard who was holding Miss
Resistance Free's lead (Maggie to her friends).
Anyway, one of the girls removed her horse from the
outer box and was waiting for Richard, who was signing the other girls horse. That was when Maggie, who is after all a
horse and very bored by this time, reached out and took a rather large nibble from the edge of the cardboard holding the
waiting girls horse. The poor girl was devastated! Her NIB model had just been rendered something much less than new. The entire
corner of the cardboard was torn and crushed.
At this point the girl was just about to cry. Who wouldn't?
Richard quickly took in what happened and promptly turned the tide. Kneeling
down he asked.
"Why are you crying?"
Tears glimmering in her eyes the girl held out her the crumpled cardboard and,
pointing to Maggie, said.
"She ate my new horse"
Richard stood up and took the girls hand leading her back and to the side of the line of people.
"Do you see all those people?" he pointed down the line.
The girl just nodded her head, rubbing her eyes with the back of her hand.
"Do you realize that there have been hundreds of people here to get their horses signed and yours is the only one that Maggie has wanted to sign herself? You
must be one special little lady for her to want to do that."
And with that her tears vanished and a tremendous smile sprouted.
"Do you want a new horse?" he asked.
Now clutching her horse like it was the most precious gift ever, she vigorously shook her head.
"No Way!" She said.
"Would you like me to sign it too?" To which the girl handed him the horse still strapped to its crinkled cardboard backing. He signed it, patted the girl on the head and watched her leave. Richard then turned to me and started to ask me about myself and sign my horse as if I was his whole reason for being there. I couldn't
believe it. He had just made that little girls day but rather than dwell on it, he
gave me his total attention!
Of all the wondrous sites and special happenings at Breyerfest this one
small story is what I will remember most.
